A grassroots event held in even-numbered years, and backed by 60 facial hair clubs across the United States & Canada, the GABMC gathers together international competitors sporting the finest, biggest, and best beards and moustaches from North America and beyond for charity & bragging rights.
A Few Details
We have blocks of rooms at group rates at the Motor City Casino Hotel close to the venue (The Masonic Temple) for everyone from couples and families to groups. With everything centralized, the events will be within strolling distance from your room.
Keep an eye out for events planned Thursday & Friday nights, and of course a brunch Sunday.
There’s plenty to see and do in the area,
Up-and-coming restaurants, a do-it-yourself attitude, new hotels, scenic and social parks, public transit, bike lanes and a walkable international riverfront are redefining Detroit. Architecture from Albert Kahn and Isamu Noguchi lives next to all-night joints selling loaded Coney dogs and Prohibition-born speakeasies pouring locally crafted beer and cocktails. The city’s Greektown, Eastern Market, The District Detroit, Corktown and Midtown neighborhoods are booming with activity.
Some of our attractions include: Detroit Style Pizza, Coney Island Hot Dogs, Motown, Eastern Market, Mexicantown, the Riverwalk, Belle Isle, Corktown, The Henry Ford Museum, John King Books (one of the largest used & rare bookstores in the world), We have 3 different casinos in the city, MGM, Greektown, and Motor City Casino, the Dequindre Cut, some of the best breweries in the country, legal marijuana dispensaries & lounges.

Detroit is also the home of our professional sports stadiums, Comerica Park (Detroit Tigers), Little Caesars Arena (The Detroit Redwings and The Detroit Pistons), Ford Field (the Detroit Lions). We also most recently added our professional soccer team to the list, The Detroit City FC.
We would like to take a moment to thank everyone once again for their support of the 2018 GABMC in Richmond.  We had over 340 competitors representing 39 states (including Alaska!), 3 Canadian provinces, the U.K., Germany, and Japan, and raised an astounding $25,220 for The Humane Society of the United States & the Pink Ink Fund, a record for any single-day facial hair competition anywhere!
